Apps don’t fit with the way content works online, and that is why more and more publishers are disappointed about the apps dream and how it could restore their publishing income. Apps are walled gardens and disregard one of the strongest aspects, in fact the essence of the internet: linking.
There are excellent publisher’s apps on the iPad and iPhone and some publishers may even make an income out of their app. Yet, most are still struggling with the technology and content and with Apple and its greedy 30 percent. But the strongest struggle is the walled garden. Is the paid app dead?
